Born in Zurich, raised in Switzerland and the United States (Lawrence, Kansas, and Grosse Pointe, Michigan) Rudolf came to Canada in 1967 to take degrees in English literature and journalism at Ottawa's Carleton University. A year of designing for the Tricycle theatre company in London, England, was followed by four years at the Ontario College of Art (two of which were spent with off-campus program in Florence), graduating in 1978. He continued to study art in Mexico and at London's St.Martin's School of Art.

Exhibiting regularly in Canada and Europe, Stussi taught art in Toronto for various boards and groups and at OCA.

From 1988 to 1991 he was president of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), founding the Diploma Collection, Canada's first national watercolour collection, and organizing International Waters, the first joint showing ever by the CSPWC, the English Royal Watercolour Society (RWS), and the American Watercolour Society (AWS), which toured all three countries.

In 1989 Stussi was artist-in-residence in Altos de Chavón in the Dominican Republic; in 1991 at Canada's renowned McMichael Collection.

From 1987 he became involved in animation with Toronto's Nelvana Ltd., as well as European and American films; he supervised productions in the Philippines, China and Korea, painted backgrounds for Asterix in Berlin. He art-directed the prize-winning TV series "Little Bear" and "Rolie-Polie-Olie" (working with Maurice Sendak and William Joyce) and the upcoming feature film release "Heidi".

He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. In 1998 Benteli published a monograph by Canadian critic Paul Duval; two children's books, including "Heidi" followed in successive years.

Since 1989 Stussi has painted ten public and private murals in Canada and Europe.

He is represented by galleries in Canada, the United States, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. He lives in Canada and Switzerland and currently teaches and paints in Toronto. He is the Coordinator of the Fine Arts Studio at Toronto's Centennial College

1947 in Zürich geboren, in der Schweiz und den Vereinigten Staaten (Lawrence, Kansas, und Grosse Pointe, Michigan) aufgewachsen, kam Rudolf mit zwanzig nach Kanada, um an der Carleton Universität in Ottawa englische Literatur und Journalismus zu studieren. Er verbrachte ein Jahr in London als Designer für ein Theater der sogenannten "Fringe" und danach vier Jahre am Ontario College of Art in Toronto (davon zwei im Sonderprogramm in Florenz). Seit 1987 hat Rudolf sich in der Trickfilmindustrie betätigt, hauptsächlich mit der kanadischen Firma Nelvana, aber auch auf europäischen und amerikanischen Projekten. Er übersah Produktionen in den Philippinen, China und Korea, malte Hintergrüde für Asterix in Berlin und gestaltete Sendak's "Der kleine Bär" sowie Joyce's "Rolie-Polie-Olie" und den neuen Kinofilm "Heidi".

Er wurde zur Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts erwählt und hat verschiedene Kunstpreise gewonnen. Eine Monographie über ihn vom renommierten kanadischen Kritiker Paul Duval erschien 1998 beim Benteli Verlag, Bern.

Stüssi wird durch Galerien in Kanada, den USA, der Schweiz, Deutschland und Österreich vertreten. Er wohnt in Kanada und der Schweiz, malt und unterrichtet zur Zeit in Toronto. Er ist der Leiter des Kunststudios der Centennial College in Toronto.
